Bigscreen VR, the popular remote desktop and social VR app, announced today the launch of ad-supported free-to-watch movies in partnership with Pluto.tv.
The move comes after the app launched over 170 new TV channels into the app earlier in January, and unveiled a 2021 roadmap for the app that includes new features, social events, and remote desktop improvements.
The blog post from Bigscreen reads, “In this update, we are launching a new feature: ad-supported, free-to-watch movies. Unlike Bigscreen’s paid movie rentals, which are partnerships with major movie studios like Paramount Pictures, these free movies are hosted on Pluto.tv and includes ads from PlutoTV. These free movies can be watched on-demand at any time in any of our environments, such as the recently launched Drive-in Movie Theater.”
The free movies on Bigscreen VR so far are:
- Blair Witch
- It Follows
- Nacho Libre
- Paranormal Activity 4
These free-to-watch movies are available in the United States so far. Licensing for the UK, Canada, and other regions is being worked on.
In the same blog post, Bigscreen also announced a few other features that are being added soon:
- Full built-in Youtube support
- More streaming services
- A new friends system
- Technology to enable large groups of people to stream ultra-low latency video in VR.
Bigscreen VR is a remote access client similar to Virtual Desktop in some ways. Lately, Bigscreen VR has focused greatly on expanding its social features. You can hang out and watch content with friends in VR. Bigscreen also hosts social events, watch parties, and other coordinated content. It is a must-have app for those looking to stream media in VR.
