HTC is continuing to tease the launch of a new VR headset, release three moving GIF images which give the clearest view of the headset yet. A leak report indicates that there will be two new headsets: The HTC Vive Focus Pro 3 and Vive Pro 2. The headset will be officially announced during the Vivecon keynote speech on May 11th, which we will have full coverage on.
The leak report comes from Protocol, who names the two headsets based on company documents from HTC. The price for the Vive Focus 3 Business Edition is €1,474 ($1,771), and the Pro 2 is €842 ($1,012). The site did not detail any hardware specs or images for either device.
The Vive Focus is a standalone headset, similar to the Oculus Quest 2. However, the hardware cost of this headset would put it squarely in the enterprise market. The Vive Pro 2 is a traditional PC VR headset.
Previously, teaser images from HTC gave us our clearest official look at the hardware yet.
In the first image, a ray of sun moves behind the front-bottom view of the headset, revealing clear inside-out tracking cameras. This is key since it means that the headset won’t require base stations in order to use.
The second photo is less clear. We believe it to be a grille on the top of the headset. This might be for air flow or heat dissipation on the new headset? Comment down below and let su know what you think about this one.\
Lastly, the same sensor as shown in the original tweet is below. It appears to be another inside-out camera. On the left side appears to be a strap protruding out.
HTC previously previewed the same new VR headset on Twitter on April 9th. The caption of the tweet reads “Now that the accessories are out of the way, let’s get down to business” and it shows what looks to be a strap or sensor of some kind.
As soon as we know more information, we will let everyone know. Fans on Twitter quickly jumped into the Twitter thread hoping for a proper standalone VR headset that would compete with the Oculus Quest 2. Or one that makes our best VR headsets list in the future.
Last month, the president of HTC China, Alvin Graylin, joined an online discussion based on virtual reality. He had this to say about a new VR headset from HTC this year:
“..our next generation of standalone, we’re going to have one this year, it’s going to be a great product, I can’t give any specs about it, but I think you’ll find it all the prospects that is better than what we have today, and is probably better than what there is today from any provider.Alvin Graylin
