Oculus Quest 2 Foam Facial Interface Recall
After reports of irritated skin and product defects, Oculus is participating in a voluntary recall of the facial interface in coordination with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
Per the CPSC, consumers who experience a skin irritation or reaction should immediately stop using the recalled foam facial interface. The firm has received approximately 5,716 reports of incidents of skin irritation and approximately 45 reports of consumers that required medical attention.
The CPSC said that about “4 million” facial interfaces are affected by the recall, plus 172,600 in Canada, sold between October 2020 and July 2021. The facial interface comes with all Oculus Quest 2 headsets sold and in the Fit Pack add-on accessory.
A few users have posted on social media and Reddit about the facial interface causing irritation and red skin. For most people, these problems go away naturally on their own. Still, the concerns are severe enough that Oculus is offering a free Oculus Quest 2 silicon cover to all owners.
Oculus Quest 2 Silicon Cover
The silicon cover accessory goes over top of the padded foam interface. Any user who is irritated from the foam interface should use the silicon cover instead.
The silicon cover is also recommended if you prefer to work out using your Oculus Quest 2. The silicon material does not allow sweat to soak in, making it easier to clean after a good work out.
Below, you can find out if you are affected and how to get your free Oculus Quest 2 silicon cover.

Additionally, the serial number can be found on the user’s account, on the Oculus app or on the headset. To locate the headset serial number, you can follow these guidelines:
- Headset: On the right side of your headset, gently pull the strap back away from the strap arm until it pops off. Your headset serial number will be on the inside of the strap arm.
- Controllers: Remove the battery door from your touch controller, then remove the battery. Your serial number will be on the inside of the controller under the battery.
- Box/packaging: On the outside of your Oculus Quest 2 box, look for a white sticker marked with a bar code. Under the bar code, find S/N followed by the 14-digit serial number.
