What Age Can Kids Use a Meta Quest?

Meta’s age rules are the first thing to check. People aged 13 and up can use a Quest with a regular Meta account (the age can differ by country). A parent or guardian can create and manage an account for a child aged 10 to 12, and Meta says children under 10 cannot use Meta Quest 2 and 3.

Every game in the Meta Store also has its own age rating, shown on the game’s page next to content notes like fantasy violence or crude humor. Those ratings are why a few popular games are missing from the main list. Roblox and Marvel’s Iron Man VR are both rated Teen, so I moved them to the sections near the end.

Here is what I would set up before handing over the headset:

  • Use a parent-managed account for a child aged 10 to 12, so you control which apps they can download.

  • Check the rating and any “Users Interact” note on a game’s Meta Store page. That note means other players can talk to your child.

  • Keep sessions short and take a break at the first sign of dizziness. Our guide on whether VR is bad for your eyes covers the details.

  • If you haven’t bought a headset yet, our Quest 3S vs Quest 3 comparison explains the difference.

Let’s get into the best Meta Quest games for kids in full detail!

Little Critters (Best New Release)

little critters best meta quest games for kids

Little Critters is a mixed reality tower defense game: your headset shows your real room, and you place traps on your real furniture, walls and ceiling to defend against waves of critters. Kids love this kind of game on their tablets and it’s a real blast to play in virtual reality.

You can pick critters up, throw them or squash them, and a slingshot helps when the waves get tougher. The game wants a play space of at least 2m x 2m (about 6.5 feet square), so it works best in a bedroom or living room with the furniture pushed back.

Why Little Critters Is Great for Kids

Little Critters is rated Everyone 10+ in the Meta Store for fantasy violence and crude humor, so it suits the older end of the kid range. The action is squashing cartoon bugs, not fighting people. It’s a solo game, and the waves give you natural places to stop.

Walkabout Mini Golf (Best for the Whole Family)

walkabout mini golf best meta quest games for kids

Walkabout Mini Golf is a realistic mini golf game with 14 unique 18-hole courses, plus extra courses you can buy separately. You can play solo, jump into a one-on-one online match, or set up a private room for up to 8 players.

You putt with the controller like a real club, and hidden balls are scattered around each course. Hard Mode unlocks tougher versions of every course if anyone wants more of a challenge.

Why Walkabout Mini Golf Is Great for Kids

The Meta Store gives Walkabout Mini Golf an Everyone rating with no content descriptors. It does note in-game purchases (the extra courses) and online interaction with other players. Playing in a private room with family is the easiest way to keep it a family game.

Just Dance VR: Welcome to Dancity (Best for Active Play)

just dance vr best meta quest game for kids

Just Dance VR: Welcome to Dancity adds a 3D twist to the Just Dance series, with two-hand scoring and dance worlds that surround you. It has 25 songs, including pop hits from artists like Queen, Selena Gomez and Carly Rae Jepsen.

Up to 6 players can dance together, and an online hub called Dancity lets you meet up to 18 players with a customizable avatar. It came out in October 2024, and Meta features it on its own family page.

Why Just Dance VR Is Great for Kids

Expect an Everyone rating, with a mild lyrics note and a note about online interaction. It’s the most active game on this list, so it works well for kids with energy to burn. Clear a few feet around you first, and stick to private matches with people you know.

Trombone Champ: Unflattened! (Best for Silly Music Fun)

trombone champ meta quest vr game for kids

Trombone Champ: Unflattened! turns a trombone into a game controller. You slide and toot your way through 58 tracks, from anthems and marches to classical pieces and folk songs.

There’s an all-new campaign, more than 25 unlockable trombones and collectible cards packed with absurd trivia. A mixed reality mode lets you play in your own room, and Disney song packs are sold separately.

Why Trombone Champ Is Great for Kids

The Meta Store rates Trombone Champ Everyone, with notes for an alcohol reference and in-game purchases. The alcohol reference is minor in a game this silly, but it’s worth knowing about. It’s a solo game you can play standing or sitting, and the Meta Store lists the comfort level as comfortable.

LEGO Bricktales (Best for Builders)

lego brick tales best meta quest games for kids

LEGO Bricktales is a puzzle adventure where you solve problems by building with LEGO bricks. You travel through LEGO dioramas, from jungles and deserts to a medieval castle and Caribbean islands, to help your grandfather fix up his run-down amusement park.

Each puzzle hands you a set of bricks, and it’s up to you to build something that works, like a crane or a gyrocopter. There are also extra builds in the amusement park for kids who just want to build.

Why LEGO Bricktales Is Great for Kids

Meta rates LEGO Bricktales Everyone for mild fantasy violence. It’s a calm single-player game with no online interaction note, so there’s nothing to supervise beyond play time. For more puzzle picks, see our list of the best VR puzzle games.

Fruit Ninja 2 (Best for Quick Sessions)

fruit ninja 2 best meta quest game for kids

Fruit Ninja is a classic mobile game available in virtual reality. You aim to slice as much fruit as possible without letting it fall on the ground. Unlike your phone, where you swipe with your finger, the VR game has you swinging your arms as if you were holding a real sword.

Fruit Ninja 2 introduces a new way to play with the addition of a bow. You must now master a new form of fruit piercing, which requires even more precision and aim than before.

Why Fruit Ninja 2 VR is Great for Kids

Fruit Ninja VR is great for kids because it offers a fun, easy, and interactive experience that combines motion controls with the thrill of slicing fruits. Other Great Meta Quest Games For Kids

With hundreds of games in the store and even more free Meta Quest experiences to try, there are many other ‘best games’ for kids. Here are some other notable options to play:

  • Job Simulator: a silly, hands-on game where you do everyday jobs. Rated Everyone with a crude humor note, and it needs room to move since it only supports roomscale play.

  • Wallace & Gromit in The Grand Getaway: a single-player story adventure with the duo, rated Everyone and played standing.

  • PowerWash Simulator VR: a calm cleaning game with a co-op mode, rated Everyone.

  • Beat Saber: the rhythm game where you slash blocks to the beat, rated Everyone with an in-game purchases note.

Games That Need More Supervision

Some of the games kids ask for most are social games, where your child can talk to strangers. They aren’t bad games, but I would only let kids play them with a parent nearby and the account settings checked.

Roblox (Rated Teen)

Roblox is rated Teen in the Meta Store, with a “Diverse Content: Discretion Advised” note, online interaction and in-game purchases. It was on the earlier version of this list, but it isn’t a pick for under-13s. A child on a parent-managed account may not be able to download it.

Gorilla Tag (Rated Everyone)

Gorilla Tag is a free tag game where you move around by swinging your arms. It’s rated Everyone for mild fantasy violence, but the Meta Store flags online interaction and in-game purchases. The game uses age checks to limit chat for younger players, and those checks aren’t foolproof, so mute voice chat for younger kids and give them a clear play space.

gorilla tag

Yeeps (Rated Everyone 10+)

Yeeps is a free multiplayer game rated Everyone 10+ for fantasy violence, and the Meta Store flags online interaction and in-game purchases. It only has multiplayer modes, so treat it the same way as Gorilla Tag: stay nearby and check who your child is playing with.

Marvel’s Iron Man VR and Other Teen-Rated Games

Marvel’s Iron Man VR is rated Teen for mild language and violence, so I moved it off the main list. ForeVR Bowl (Teen, with online interaction) and Another Fisherman’s Tale (listed in the Meta Store as A Fisherman’s Tale 2, Teen for partial nudity and alcohol use) are also Teen-rated and no longer on the main list. They are fine to explore with a teenager, but they aren’t picks for younger kids.

Meta Quest Games for Kids FAQ

What age can kids use a Meta Quest?

People aged 13 and up can use a Quest with a regular Meta account, and the age can differ by country. A parent or guardian can create and manage an account for a child aged 10 to 12. Meta says children under 10 cannot use Meta Quest 2 and 3.

What are the best Meta Quest games for a 10 year old?

Every game in the main list is rated Everyone or Everyone 10+ in the Meta Store. Five are rated Everyone 10+: Little Critters, Moss: Book II, Vacation Simulator, Traffic Jams and Acron: Attack of the Squirrels. Walkabout Mini Golf and Cook-Out are easy picks if you want to play along.

Are Meta Quest games safe for kids?

It depends on the game. Every game in the Meta Store has an age rating and content notes. Games with a ‘Users Interact’ note let kids talk to other players, so those need more supervision than solo games like LEGO Bricktales or Moss: Book II.

Most games on this list are paid. The free games kids ask for most, like Gorilla Tag and Yeeps, are online multiplayer games, so treat them as supervised play. See our list of free Meta Quest games for more options.

I do not have a single number to give you. I would keep sessions short, take a break at the first sign of dizziness or eye strain, and stop if your child feels unwell. Our guide on whether VR is bad for your eyes covers more.

Which Meta Quest games can the whole family play together?

Walkabout Mini Golf, Cook-Out and Just Dance VR are the easiest to play together. Traffic Jams and Acron: Attack of the Squirrels let family members join from a phone while one person wears the headset. For more ideas, see our multiplayer VR games list.
