Oculus Quest 2 Head Strap
The Quest 2 has a brand new soft touch strap which is easier to slip on and off. The top strap of the headset attaches at the back of your head with a loop that goes around the side strap. The side straps have a two layer adjustable strap instead of velcro.
You pull on the left strap to tighten the fit on your head and right strap to loosen the fit. The entire strap is softer to wear and better distributes weight around your head compared to the Quest 1.
However, being more adjustable means that some people find the new Quest 2 less comfortable at first. Below, we’ll take a look at how to make the headset fit better on your head.
How to Make the Oculus Quest 2 More Comfortable
Adjust the Side Straps
The Quest 2 has new side straps that you pull outward to tight and inward to loosen. Especially if you have upgraded from the original Quest 1, this can be a little new and unique.
We’ve found that the best way to make the straps on the Quest 2 more comfortable is to put the headset on first and then tighten the straps second.
A second tip is to tighten these straps more than you think. That way, the headset won’t shift on your head as you move around your guardian boundary.
This soft strap has a fair bit of elastic in it, so you should be able to pull off your headset and replace it later just fine.
Wear the Soft Strap at the Bottom of your Head
A lot of people do not wear the Quest headset properly. They sit the back strap of the headset too far up on the rear of their skull. The proper location for the back strap is as low down as possible, past the toughest part of your skull.
Once you wear the strap properly, you should instantly feel the Quest 2 more comfortable of a fit on your head. The weight of the headset should sit down at the of your skull and not at the top of your head.
Oculus’ documentation shows the location of the strap in the right spot for good reference.
Pivot the Side Band into Place
The Oculus Quest 2 has side bands that actually pivot up and down, which lots of people don’t know about. This is the side band that contains the speakers for the headset.
As you are wearing the headset on your face, you can pivot this band up and down to tighten and loosen the fit of the headset on your face.
By pivoting the side band downward, you can sit the Quest 2 tighter on your face, which will make it fit much better. The side band attaches directly to the sides of your Quest 2 headset, shown in the picture below.
Upgrade to the Elite Strap
A lot of people have automatically written off the new soft strap because it is lighter and less sturdy than the original Quest 1. We think that the tips above can help you make the new soft strap feel a lot better for you.
If you still aren’t a fan of the new soft strap, you can always upgrade to the official Elite Strap from Oculus. The Elite Strap features a halo band design similar to the Oculus Rift S. It is sturdier all around with a better emphasis on distributing weight to the back of your head.
The Elite Strap costs $49 to buy, which is half the savings in the Quest 2 price over the original.
