Oculus is holding their first ever Gaming Showcase on April 21st. It is a showcase of software and a preview of upcoming games for the Oculus Quest and Rift S platforms.

In this post, we break down every single game announcement from the Oculus Gaming Showcase! Both new and upcoming Oculus Quest games are featured!

We will have features, news, and updates for all of these games in the future.

Oculus Gaming Showcase 2021

Resident Evil 4

One of the biggest announcements at the Oculus Gaming Showcase is that Resident Evil 4 is being rebuilt for virtual reality and the Oculus Quest 2 platform. It will be the first Quest 2 exclusive game, taking advantage of the extra power in the Quest 2’s processor.

The game comes with a bunch of gameplay enhancements for VR:

  • Knives and guns can be used at the same time.
  • Items can be interacted with in new and realistic ways
  • The inventory system has been rebuilt from the ground up for virtual reality.
  • Menus are now live instead of a pause screen.
  • Movement can be analog, room-scale or teleportation.
  • Seated gameplay support
  • Spatial audio support

Resident Evil 4 VR places you in the game as Leon Kennedy, tasked with travelling to Europe to rescue the President’s daughter in the middle of a zombie outbreak. The game has been rebuilt from the ground up for virtual reality.

The release date for Resident Evil 4 VR on the Oculus Quest 2 is later in 2021.

Pistol Whip

Cloudhead Games had a huge hit with the 2089 cinematic gameplay mode added to Pistol Whip in late 2020. At the Oculus Gaming Showcase, Cloudhead revealed the next gameplay story: “Smoke and Thunder”.

Smoke and Thunder tells the story of two sisters and takes place in the wild west.

There will be again five scenes, new modifiers, new weapons, new bosses.

Also coming to the game is the “Concierge” update. Announced at the same time as 2089, it promises a new Arcade Mode and new modifiers to improve gameplay. Pistol Whip is a fun shooting rhythm game for all VR platforms.

Smoke and Thunder and Concierge are launching in summer 2021.

Lone Echo II

Lone Echo II is a sequel to the popular zero gravity game from 2017. It takes place on the rings of Saturn where you have to unravel the mysteries of Lone Echo and journey into space. The original game was very popular for its unique, zero gravity movements. The game has spun off a successful multiplayer game, Echo Arena.

Lone Echo II was originally announced for the Oculus Rift platform only. That was confirmed at the Oculus Gaming Showcase. It is launching this summer. Oculus Quest players will only be able play with an Oculus Link connection.

Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge

Developer of Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge, ILMxLAB, promised that the original game was the start of a lot of Star Wars VR content. At the gaming showcase, it was announced that ILMxLAB is working on Part 2 of the game, with two legendary tales. One of the characters you will meet in Part 2 is Dok Ondar. It is set for release later in 2021.

Star Wars: Tales From the Galaxy’s Edge is an action-adventure virtual reality experience where you’ll travel to the planet Batuu and get caught up in your own unforgettable story. Fight alongside new and familiar characters, and face intimidating villains, as you explore all-new regions and eras of the Star Wars galaxy. 

Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge has been crafted for all types of players and fans. The experience takes place on the outskirts of Black Spire Outpost, a remote trading port as depicted in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, the epic and immersively themed lands at Disneyland Resort in California and Walt Disney World Resort in Florida.

The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners

The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners is one of the most popular Oculus Quest games of all time. This alone should get it a spot in the Gaming Showcase ever year.

At the gaming showcase, a new expansion pack titled Aftershocks was announced. It is coming out on May 20th and features new levels and content!

Vertigo Games

Vertigo Games is one of the most popular VR developers for the Oculus platform. They have released a number of games:

  • Traffic Jams
  • After the Fall
  • Arizona Sunshine
  • A Fisherman’s Tale
  • Skyworld

At the Oculus Gaming Showcase, they brought an update to After the Fall. The game is set to launch later in 2021. An exclusive new trailer for the game was released.

After the Fall is a VR action FPS with intense co-op gameplay. Team up with friends and take on a hostile VR world filled with ferocious undead–mutated and twisted by the relentless cold.

After the Fall is launching for both the Quest and Rift platforms with cross-play support.

Wraith: The Oblivion – Afterlife

Fast Travel Games is about to launch Wraith: The Oblivion on April 22nd. Wraith is a VR horror game set in the World of Darkness, the shared VR universe for games like Vampire: The Masquerade and Werewolf: The Apocalypse. You have to use your supernatural abilities to solve the mystery behind your death.

As a wraith, you can move through walls, track spirits, and manipulate objects from a distance. You have to use these talents to find out how you died and piece together the puzzle. Your main setting is the Barclay Mansion, which you will get to know well throughout the game.

During the Showcase, Oculus previewed the game and hyped it up in advance of its launch. You can view the trailer below.

Warhammer 40,000: Battle Toys

At the showcase, it was announced that Warhammer 40,000 is launching on the Oculus Rift today! There is cross play between both platforms.

Star Wars Pinball

Star Wars Pinball is an upcoming arcade game with 8 VR pinball tables. Both classic and futuristic tables are included in the game. The Mandalorian table includes scenes and concepts introduced in season one.

You can also customize your room and play space. You can customize your fan cave with memorabilia.

Star Wars Pinball launches next week, on April 29th.

I Expect You To Die 2

The sequel to I Expect You To Die is coming soon. It will launch on the Quest and Rift platforms later in 2021.

In the game, you are drawn back into the field. Zorax has come back and the world is counting on your skills.

Carve Snowboarding

Carve is a brand new upcoming release. From the creators of 1080 Snowboarding for the N64, this is a full VR downhill skiing experience. You have to race down different hills, perform tricks, collect objects, and pass different levels.

Carve Snowboarding is launching later on in 2021.

The Climb 2

At the Gaming Showcase, it was announced that the Freestyle expansion pack is coming out tomorrow. It will feature 12 new levels to pass, released at two different times. The first pack of 6 levels is launching tomorrow!

Being added to the game is a new rhythm game which has you climb to the beat.
