What is the Apple Magic keyboard?

Apple unveiled it’s Magic Keyboard for the iPad in early 2020. The keyboard resembled the older Smart Keyboard for the iPad. The best feature of the Apple Magic Keyboard that makes it stand out is the built-in trackpad for easier navigation. 

The Apple Magic keyboard has been used as the default keyboard for Mac but it also makes it possible to use the iPad as a laptop.

How to connect the Apple Magic keyboard to Meta Quest

With Quest’s Apple Magic keyboard support, you will be able to view the 3D representation of the keyboard and your hands in the Home environment. 

This feature can be of great help for those who’ve switched to working on the Quest 2 and for those who simply want to catch up with friends on Beat Saber-like games. 

Having understood the uses of the Apple Magic keyboard feature, let’s hop on to the procedure to connect it to the Quest 2.

Step 1:

Go to the Hands and Controllers settings menu on your Meta Quest headset.

Enable Hand tracking

Step 3:

Now, go to Settings

Step 4:

Head over to the Experimental Features panel

Step 5:

Under the Tracked Keyboard settings, hit Edit on the Bluetooth Keyboard option

Step 6:

Select the Magic keyboard and the headset will start the pairing process via Bluetooth. To enable pairing on the Apple Magic keyboard, turn the keyboard off and on again.

Step 7:

Follow the instructions on your Quest 2 headset to complete pairing. 

Note: For optimal tracking experience, use a flat surface in a bright area.

These are the key highlights of the Quest V37 software update. 

Apple Magic Keyboard in VR

You can now connect your Apple Magic keyboard to the Quest 2 headset. In the V28 update, Meta Quest extended support to Logitech’s K830 keyboard in VR. It used the experimental Bluetooth-enabled keyboard tracking technology to make it happen.

The V37 update adds Magic keyboard to its list of supported devices. You can now view 3D representation of the keyboard and your hands in the Home environment. 

Share Links from Android phone to Quest

You can now seamlessly share links from your Android device to the Quest 2 via the Oculus Mobile app. 

To do so, turn your headset on and enable Bluetooth on your Android phone. Now, open any website on your phone, click Share, and choose the Oculus app. Click ‘Open Now’ and select your headset. Wait for the link to open in Browser when you’re ready with the headset.

Note that the feature is currently only available on Android devices. Meta QUest has confirmed to add iOS support in the near future though. 

Tablet and Desktop Modes

The Desktop mode, on the other hand, displays the 2D panels positioned farther and appearing much larger with repositionability, ideal for multitasking.

With the V37 update, you can now use hand-tracked gestures to quickly navigate to the common settings in the Quick Action Menu.

Finally, you will now see an updated Explore page that opens up when you power on the headset. Here, you can discover what’s possible and what’s happening in virtual reality. 

It will show you recommendations for new games, apps, media, and also track your friends’ status. Also, you will be able to share anything saved on your phone to your Quest using the Share Link feature.
