In a blog post today, Sony officially announced the “next generation VR system coming to the PS5” console.
The new VR hardware has enhanced resolution, field of view, tracking, and input. It will connect to the PS5 with a single cord to simplify setup. It will also come with a new VR controller, which will incorporate a few features found in the DualSense wireless controller.
“Today I’m pleased to share that our next generation VR system will be coming to Playstation 5, enabling the ultimate entertainment experience with dramatic leaps in performance and interactivity. Players will feel an even greater sense of presence and become even more immersed in their game worlds once they put on the new headset.Sony blog
The new Playstation VR 2 won’t be launching in 2021, but development is underway today.
To end the blog post, Sony thanks PS VR players for their continued support. Upcoming Playstation VR games include After the Fall, Sniper Elite VR, and Humanity.
Around the same time that the blog post launched, Sony President Jim Ryan did an interview with the Washington Post where he confirmed the hardware.
He said that the next headset will be less cumbersome, as opposed to the current PSVR setup that requires wires running through a PlayStation 4, the TV and a separate black box called the PSVR processor.

No. Will it be next year? No. But will it come at some stage? We believe that. And we’re very pleased with all the experience that we’ve gained with PlayStation VR, and we look forwarding to seeing where that takes us in the future.Jim Ryan, President of Sony
